Doing business successfully starts with registration

“Even though I came to the Netherlands 15 years ago, I still feel a special bond to my native country. They make a special kind of cognac there that no-one has heard of here. I acquired the exclusive distribution rights and now market the drink in this part of the world. The cognac has its own brand name, logo and label and is, of course, registered with the Benelux Office for Intellectual Property."

Applying for a search

You can carry out your own search in the Trademarks Register free of charge.

Alternatively, you can ask the BOIP to conduct a search for you (for a charge) (search form in Dutch or French and explanatory notes in Dutch or French), to find out if there are any existing trademarks for specific products or services that might obstruct the registration of your own mark. We will send you a search report within three weeks, composed on the basis of specific search criteria for verbal and visual elements.

The option to apply for a search online is temporarily unavailable. We are currently upgrading the BOIP Online Filing system. In a few months' time, the electronic version will become available once again.

NB. If a trademark does not appear in the register, that does not necessarily mean that it is available. Want to know more? Then go to the section "Is my trademark still available?".
