About BOIP

The Benelux Office for Intellectual Property (BOIP) is the official body in the Benelux region responsible for the registration of trademarks and industrial designs. BOIP is part of the Benelux Organisation for Intellectual Property, an international organisation that has been established by the Benelux Convention on Intellectual Property and is monitored by its Executive Board. This Board is manned by representatives from all three Benelux countries.

The Organisation has been assigned the following tasks and duties:

  1. to execute the Convention and the implementing regulations;
  2. to promote the protection of trademarks and designs in the Benelux countries;
  3. to carry out additional tasks in other fields of intellectual property law, as directed by the Executive Board;
  4. continual evaluation and, if necessary, amendment of the Benelux legislation on trademarks and designs, in the light of international, Community and other developments.
