What is a trademark?
A trademark is a sign that distinguishes your goods (products) or services from those of your competitors. Registering your trademark at the Benelux Office for Intellectual Property (BOIP) gives you the exclusive right to use the trademark for certain goods (products) and services within the Benelux, for a(n) (extendable) period of 10 years.
When I first started out, I thought brand registration was for big companies, not a small business like mine. Then I found out someone else was using my company name to offer coaching services. Thankfully, I managed to reach an amicable settlement with the owner, but it did help me realise I should register my brand with the BOIP!
