The Trademark Package marks a new step forward in the harmonisation of trademark law across Europe. A number of things will change from the beginning of 2019, when the new Trademark Directive enters force.
You are cordially invited to explore the new developments with us at a seminar which will take place on 13 December 2018 at our offices at the Bordewijklaan in The Hague.
Everything you need to know in one session
Geert Glas, a lawyer at Allen & Overy, will open the seminar, chair proceedings and steward the day's work. Our first speaker is, Tineke van Hoey, a lawyer at BOIP. She will brief you on what will change once the new Trademark Directive enters force. Olivier Vrins, a lawyer at Altius, will then investigate the relationship between trademarks on the one hand and geographical indications and plant varieties on the other. Lastly, Alexander Tsoutsanis, a lawyer at DLA Piper, will explain the ins and outs of bad faith, which will be a new issue for BOIP. At the end of the session, there will be an open panel discussion, during which you can debate the topics with the speakers.
After the break, Ellen Gevers, a trademark representative at Knijff, will address collective and certification marks. She will then hand over to Bas Kist, a trademark representative at Chiever, who will give a presentation on the new types of marks. Next up, Diter Wuytens, a lawyer at BOIP, will walk us through the practical aspects of the planned changes. The floor will then be opened for an interactive discussion between this second panel of speakers and the audience.
Finally, Geert Glas will wrap the session up with a summary of the takeaways of the day.
Programme
The working languages at the seminar will be Dutch and French. Interpretation will be provided.
